DISNEYLAND'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY - JULY 2005
Performing a leading role in the Disneyland 50th Anniversary musical spectacular "Magical Memories" on the eve of Disneyland 50th Birthday, Dick Hardwick once again spun his comedic and improvisational magic, entertaining a thousand VIP guests who were all hoping for a chance to step back in time to re-live the fantasy, the joy, and the delight of Disneyland's fifty year legacy of family entertainment. Dick not only had them cheering and laughing as he portrayed the hilarious Pecos Bill from Frontierland's Golden Horseshoe Saloon, but took them down memory lane again as "Jungle Dick" -- merrily hosting a tribute to Adventureland.
Dick Hardwick is truly funny. He can ad-lib with the best of them and is utterly likeable on stage. But, indeed, it is more than skill that makes Dick invaluable in a family entertainment venue. Simply put, Dick's greatest attributes are reflections of his own personality. He is interested in people, and thus has learned to read an audience like a book. He is prepared. He is flexible. He exudes confidence and is persistent in offering kind words of encouragement to both crew and cast. He knows when to take the lead and when to share the spotlight. His natural sense of curiosity and "down home humor" gives him an ageless appeal. Most importantly, Dick is willing to do whatever it takes to make the show successful for everyone involved. To which, he even jumped in and performed some live voice over comedic segments requested at the last minute as the voice of Davy Crockett's bear!
Quite simply, Dick is a consummate performer without a consummate ego -- a stunning rarity in these times when entertainers so often put their own needs before the happiness of the audience. Dick gave more than himself to this project. He helped the Disneyland Entertainment Division create a memory that will last a lifetime for a thousand people whose hope it was to fall in love with Disney all over again -- and they did.
Thank you Dick Hardwick. The Disney Entertainment Division remains, as always, in your cheering section.
Sincerely,
Marilyn Magness
